PRINCESS ANNE — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball program has gained two more signees for the upcoming season. Junior college transfers Lamont Sanders and Kohen Thompson will don the maroon and gray for the Hawks in 2021-22.

Sanders comes to Princess Anne after spending last season at Enterprise Community College in Alabama. He averaged 17.3 points per game last season while shooting 50.3% from the field and 40.6% from behind the arc. The Baltimore product also had a successful high school career at Dulaney High School where he was an All-County selection.

“Lamont is a super quick combo guard that can effectively create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates,” head coach Jason Crafton said. “He's extremely efficient on offense while also being an intense defender and we love the fact that he's a Maryland native as we are striving to recruit more DMV players to our roster.”

“Even though it’s close to home, the first time I stepped on the campus Coach Crafton made it feel like home,” Sanders said. “Also, the Hawks play tough and fast and that fits my game and I believe I can excel in this system.”

Thompson joins the Hawks after competing at State Fair Community College in Missouri. The Memphis native averaged 11.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 19 games played last year. As a high school player, he was a part of four district title teams, three regional title teams and a state championship winning squad as a senior in Tennessee.

"We feel like we got a true steal in Kohen,” Crafton said. “We love his versatility on both ends of the floor and he's also a great athlete that can stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting ability as well. Additionally, Kohen is an NJCAA Academic All-American which speaks volumes about his maturity and focus.”

"I knew from my first conversation with Coach Crafton that he was a man with a great vision for his basketball program,” Thompson said. “I wanted to further my career somewhere with a family atmosphere as well as a competitive basketball environment and I feel like UMES is the perfect place for me to excel on and off the court.”
