CRISFIELD — The weather is turning warmer and it’s time to get outdoors. If you want to investigate whether fishing is for you without buying the equipment, Janes Island State Park has a pole and tackle loaner program.
The bulkhead along Daugherty Creek canal is a license-free fishing area, however those over age 16 must register for a free Maryland Saltwater Angler license either by calling 855-855-3906 or going online.
Fishing elsewhere on Janes Island requires a valid Chesapeake Bay and Coastal Sport fishing license. For more details call 410-968-1565 or contact the Duty Ranger at 443-614-2591.
As for fishing derbies, one is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28 at Newtown Park, located at the intersection of Stockton and Groton roads, south of Pocomoke City. This is for ages 3-15, call 410-632-2144 for more details.
