CRISFIELD — As expected the city received just one bid for a strip of park land next to The Crab Place and the $20,000 offer price was accepted by the City Council.
The property was declared surplus in January, meaning it no longer had public use, said City Solicitor Michael Sullivan. An advertisement for bids was published, and Gregory Cain of Crab Place Real Estate LLC submitted the only offer which was accepted by a 3-0 vote with Councilwoman Charlotte Scott, Mr. Cain’s mother, abstaining.
The online crab and seafood vendor located on Maryland Avenue in what was first an A&P supermarket is currently adding on to the building.
It was in 2017 when construction of a detached shed was challenged by the city in 2018 as being built on municipal property. That case was eventually settled with the The Crab Place buying the land in dispute and the city reimbursing the company for legal fees.
