WESTOVER — Can you identify, understand or respond to the signs of a mental health or substance abuse problem among children or teens? Do you know the common signs or symptoms?

How do you interact with a child or adolescent in crisis because of bullying, or social media? Who can you call?

One in five teens and young adults live with a mental health condition and more than 10% will be diagnosed with a substance use disorder in their lifetime. If you want to be proactive, sign up for Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, an online course offered by Somerset County Public Schools.

Lessons will be Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 21-22 from 4 to 6 p.m. and to complete training you must watch both sessions. The deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 3 by contact Rachel Abbott at Somerset County Public Schools at rabbott@somerset.k12.md.us. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Online pre-work is required before attending the virtual class and stipends are available to school staff.
