The Great American Smokeout challenges people who smoke to stop using tobacco products for one day and learn about the many tools they can use to help them quit. It falls every year on the third Thursday of November. This year’s Great American Smokeout will be November 18th.

Each year, this event draws attention to the deaths and chronic diseases caused by smoking. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention because of these efforts in education, the United States adult smoking rates decreased from 20.9% (nearly 21 in every 100 adults) in 2005 to 14% (14 of every 100 adults) in 2019.

In celebration of the Great American Smokeout, the Somerset County Health Department will offer stop smoking kits at the following locations: Marion Pharmacy, 26427 Burton Avenue, Crisfield, MD 2817; Karemore Pharmacy, 12085 Somerset Ave #5, Princess Anne, MD 21853; Crisfield Pharmacy, 390 W Main St Unit-A, Crisfield, MD 21817; Chesapeake Health Care Pharmacy, 12145 Elm St, Princess Anne, MD 21853; and the Somerset County Health Department, 8928 Sign Post Road, Westover, MD 21871.

The Somerset County Health Department also offers free education, support, and medications including nicotine replacement patches, Chantix or nicotine gum. Individual sessions must be scheduled by appointment.
