CRISFIELD — Crisfield will celebrate Juneteenth with a weekend of activities hosted by the Crisfield Elks Pride Lodge 194 on South Fourth Street.

Events start at sunset on Saturday, June 18 with an outdoor movie night for youth. There will be a video about Juneteenth, Youth Choice movies, along with quizzes and prizes. Refreshments include free hotdogs popcorn and drinks.

On Sunday, June 19 at 3 p.m. there will be an opening prayer, followed by a presentation by City Council Vice President Eric Banks of a city proclamation celebrating the first annual Juneteenth Celebration. There will be information about the significance of Juneteenth, songs by choirs from the Shiloh Unity Choir, St. Paul AME and Charity Holiness churches.

Inside the lodge the Black Folks in Maritime exhibit recently featured at the Corbin Studio & Gallery will be presented with guests Elmer Barkley and James Lane. The video Juneteenth will also be shown.

Clarence Bell at 4:15 p.m. will recite the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King speech “I Have a Dream” and exhibits of famous Black figures will be presented by Woodson Elementary School students.

At 5 p.m. James Lane and Pastor Vernel Cottman will speak about local history, with young people following reciting the poem “Hey Black Child” and African dance by members of It Takes a Village. Activities close with prayer at 6 p.m.
