Crisfield Community Engagement Forum to focus on 4 topics to create revitalization plan

CRISFIELD — If you’re interested in the future of Crisfield — whether it be through more economic development or the pursuit of projects to benefit families — then sign-up or plan to attend an upcoming Community Engagement Forum 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in the cafeteria of Crisfield High School.

This initiative is being promoted by Mayor Darlene Taylor in collaboration with BEACON, the Business Economic and Community Outreach Network at Salisbury University, and will cover four primary points: business development, infrastructure, family and youth entertainment, and housing.

Although anyone can attend, a maximum of 50 people who register in advance will be allowed to participate and interact with the moderators. If not closed out the link to register will be at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CrisfieldVision.

“We want the input, we want as much input as possible,” Mayor Taylor said, and “we want a good cross-section of the community.”

Business development is not limited to job creation but can include revitalization of Main Street. Infrastructure includes street repair to flood prevention and housing can be single- or multi-family, affordable or luxury. Events fall under the category of family and youth entertainment.

“This is not a gripe session,” said Councilwoman LaVerne Johnson, and the council, concerned that others beyond the first 50 will want to comment, will look into ways for that to occur.

Anyone with questions may contact BEACON at beacon@salisbury.edu or call 410-546-6001. The end result will be a vision plan for revitalization that is based on what the community wants so the Mayor and City Council can pursue it through design and thoughtful growth.
