Chesapeake College nursing director appointed to Maryland board

Posted

WYE MILLS - Dr. Heather Westerfield, director of the Chesapeake College MGW Nursing Program, was recently appointed by Gov. Larry Hogan to the Maryland Board of Nursing for a four-year term. The Board of Nursing works to advance safe quality care in Maryland through licensure, certification, education and accountability for public protection.

In addition, Dr. Westerfield this summer was a podium presenter at the national ACEN Nursing Education Accreditation Conference. Her presentation was “A Multidimensional Approach to Improving NCLEX-RN® Pass Rates Among ADN Students” and described the progress made by Chesapeake students on nursing certification exams.

As reported by the Maryland Board of Nursing the FY 21 cohort who tested between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN Exam. This is the first time that Chesapeake College MGW Nursing Program students achieved a 100% first-time pass rate.

A graduate of Chesapeake College and the MGW Nursing Program, Dr. Westerfield later earned a master’s degree from Wesley College and a doctorate from Salisbury University. She resides in Easton.
