CAMBRIDGE — The city is mourning the loss of another young man to violence, after the shooting Monday evening of Dajour Sorrell. The 22-year-old Cambridge man was hit by gunfire near the intersection of Gloria Richardson Circle and Greenwood Avenue. Multiple shots were fired.

Medical attempts to save him were unsuccessful. Mr. Sorrells was declared dead on Monday night.
He was a graduate of Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. Mr. Sorrells is remembered by friends as a kind and thoughtful man.

Word of the incident spread quickly in the city, leaving many devastated and confused as to why such violence continues, often striking young men.

City Commissioner Lajan Cephas posted online, “They are getting caught up in a lifestyle they don’t have to live. All it takes is for them to say, ‘Enough is enough, I want more for myself.’ But instead, they reach for a gun and now families are hurt. And what more do they have today after takings someone’s life? The same thing that had two days ago. Now a family has to live with the loss! This make no sense.”

Details are scanty early in the investigation. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department at 410-228-3333. Tips can be left anonymously by calling 410-228-3784.
