ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, with the support of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, announces a new initiative to provide marketing support to the state’s commercial fishing industry.
The overall objective of this project is to mitigate some economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic by developing tools and a strategic marketing campaign that connects consumers directly with Maryland harvesters and growers.
The department is currently finalizing the design of a new website called Maryland’s Best Seafood. This site will be connected directly to Maryland’s Best and will feature the state’s harvesters and growers, as well as all the commercial species they offer. The launch of the redesigned site is planned for early fall.
A DNR spokesperson said, “The department is reaching out to commercial fishermen to determine if you would be interested in featuring your business on the Maryland's Best Seafood website. You will have your own dedicated page representing your company and contact information to help people or other businesses connect with you directly.”
"Participation in this program is completely free. It starts with a 10 minute survey in order to participate, where commercial fishermen will provide their company’s description and contact information using the survey link below. We will create your listing and send it to you for review."
Please complete the survey here.
If you don’t complete the survey students from UMES will also be reaching out directly to commercial harvesters and growers, and DNR says, “please be aware they may contact you on our behalf. They are helping to get your business featured on the new website.”
