Three arrests made in Bridgeville stolen-vehicle case

BRIDGEVILLE — Alton Jones, 71, of Seaford, along with Daveon Showell, 18, and a 16-year-old male, both of Bridgeville, were arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle after a traffic stop Saturday, authorities said.

During the stop, at about 9:15 a.m. near Coverdale Road and Mill Park Drive, a computer inquiry revealed that the Dodge Caravan had been reported stolen by the Milford Police Department, Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.

Jones, who was driving, and the passengers, Showell and the juvenile, were taken into custody without incident. A search of the van led to the discovery of approximately 0.03 grams of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and a pair of nunchucks, police said.

Jones and Showell were each charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited with a prior violent felony conviction, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving a stolen vehicle.

The men were each arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $35,400 secured bonds.

The juvenile was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving a stolen vehicle. He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released to a guardian without bond.
