Sussex Technical High offers welding and fabrication

Posted

GEORGETOWN — Sussex Technical High School offers a welding and fabrication career technical education program.

The six-credit course utilizes the American Welding Society curriculum, with a concentration on safety and health, drawing and welding symbols, thermal cutting and the four types of arc welding.

After completing the program, students can continue their education through Sussex Tech Adult Education Apprenticeships, earn a degree from a postsecondary institution or become certified welding inspectors, educators, supervisors or engineers.

Recently, the Delmarva section of the American Welding Society created a student chapter at Sussex Tech to provide classroom guest speakers, plant tours and networking for employment opportunities. In November, the newly sanctioned chapter hosted a student tour of The Metal Works, Delmar, a facility that fabricates high-quality welded items using steel, stainless steel and aluminum. It also creates custom monster trucks.
