Ten-digit dialing in effect in Delaware

Posted

All residents of Delaware will now have to let their fingers do some extra walking, dialing 10-digit phone numbers throughout the state, including the 302 area code, regardless of whether it is a local call.

Beginning July 16, 2022, dialing “988” will route individuals’ calls to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

In the area codes where the 988 is an assigned, working prefix, local calls now have to be dialed using all 10 digits of the phone number. In Delaware, those numbers are based in Selbyville — but all residents of the state will be affected. This took effect Monday.

Some residents will also need to dial a 1 before the area code and phone number, depending on their phone plan.
