Spelling of Delaware comes back to bedevil Firefly Music Festival

DOVER — As the Firefly Music Festival gets ready to celebrate its 10th anniversary next year , special winter merchandise is being sold to celebrate the big event.

But it seems that some people can’t seem to forget this year’s merchandise — or at least a certain shirt.

Firefly 2021 T-shirts may be a collector’s item in years to come because of its misspelling of the festival’s home state of Delaware — spelled Deleware on the back of the shirt.

An Instagram post on Tuesday debuting the new merchandise attracted the comment “Make sure to spell the state right this time.” Firefly the responded tongue in cheek, “Can’t we all just agree to forget about that one?”

Further questions to Firefly officials as to how the shirt snafu happened went unanswered Wednesday afternoon.

On Oct. 8, a photo of a brown T-shirt was posted on Facebook with the question “Anyone else realize they spelled Delaware wrong?’

Comments engaged in some good-natured banter.

Jill Slader-Young said “Siri, spell Delaware ... not hard. Hey Google ... smdh.’

Jamie Field assuredly said “Believe it or not, there are people that live here in Delaware and still dont know how to spell it!”

The incident brought to mind a shirt from several years ago when the band Walk the Moon was listed as Walk the Mood.

Presale tickets for next year’s Firefly Music Festival will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

It was announced earlier this month that the 10th anniversary of the music fest will take place at the Woodlands of Dover Sept. 22-25. No artists have been announced for the 2022 event.

For the presale, four-day general admission tickets will start at $279; VIP at $699; and Super VIP at $2,499.
