Gov. Hogan visits Vaccination Clinic, Hoopers Island Oyster Co.

ANNAPOLIS — Governor Larry Hogan on Feb. 26 highlighted ongoing COVID-19 recovery efforts on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with visits to Dorchester County’s vaccination site and Hoopers Island Oyster Co.
“I stopped by Dorchester County’s vaccination clinic at the Cambridge Hyatt, which is able to vaccinate five individuals every 10 minutes,” the governor said.

“To further expand access on the Eastern Shore, we will be opening a state-run mass vaccination site at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury. Additional details will be announced in the coming days.”
Dorchester County’s vaccination clinic is in space donated by the Hyatt Resort. The operation there is capable of vaccinating five individuals every 10 minutes. During his visit, Gov. Hogan spoke with a group of educators who were getting their shots, as well as with members of the general public.

Later, he toured Hoopers Island Oyster Co., an aquaculture and seafood distribution business that received grant funding from the State of Maryland to help sustain its operations.
“The oyster industry was hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 pandemic as demand from bars and restaurants significantly slowed,” a statement from the Office of the Governor said. “In total, the state has provided more than $1.7 billion in economic aid to Marylanders and local businesses, including targeted relief for agriculture, watermen, and other links in the food supply chain.”

The visit was appreciated by local health care workers.
“It’s been an exciting day for DCHD!” a statement from the county’s health department said, noting that plans to use a new, specially equipped van when more vaccines are available. “We are working diligently to make vaccines accessible to all in Dorchester County.”
“Congrats to all at our hard-working Health Department,” Michael Klise posted online. “Keep up the good work!”
