Kent County Vietnam Veterans chapter to meet Jan. 19

FREDERICA — The Kent County chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will host its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Frederica Senior Center, 216 S. Market St.

Lunch will be available at noon but must be ordered that morning at 302-335-4555. Meals are $6 for center members and $8 for others.

Chapter 850 is active in the community and includes more than 225 members and 30 associate members. Its Canines Assisting Service Heroes program has provided nine service dogs to disabled Delaware veterans, with another in training. For information or to contribute, visit here.

Chapter 850 is best known for building the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park on South Little Creek Road, Dover, honoring Kent Countians lost in Vietnam, Korea and the Middle East. The site is also home to a Gold Star Mother and Family Memorial, a Huey Dustoff helicopter, a War Dog Memorial and a POW/MIA Chair of Honor.

Membership is open to U.S. military veterans who served active duty in Vietnam (for other than training purposes) between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 7, 1975, or in any location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. Life membership is $50.
