Delmarva Amateur Radio & Electronics Expo is Saturday

Posted

GEORGETOWN — The annual Delmarva Amateur Radio & Electronics Expo will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Warren L. and Charles C. Allen Jr. CHEER Community Center.

Parking and outside tailgating events are free, while admission to the vendor exhibits costs $8.

Chris Cote of Smyrna, who has been involved in ham radio for almost 50 years, will be displaying his equipment to demonstrate how enthusiasts experiment and make contacts both in and out of this world. Mr. Cote, whose call sign is KE5NJ, travels in his yellow bus with his tools set up. At the expo, attendees are welcome to visit the bus in the parking lot as early as 7:30.

Later this year, Mr. Cote plans to bounce his radio signal from a public park, off the moon and back to Earth to a station in another park. This will require both stations to be in positions where the moon is above the horizon, the right kind of antennae and a great deal of astrological information to calculate the best date, time and trajectory.
