SMYRNA — A 27-year-old Dover man was arrested on criminal and traffic charges following a vehicle stop Saturday, authorities said.

Delaware State Police said the stop came after Deshaun J. Williams failed to signal properly, as he was driving on U.S. 13 approaching Messina Hill Road at approximately 10:25 p.m. Troopers contacted Mr. Williams and a passenger and detected marijuana residue in plain view, police said.

A vehicle search located a loaded handgun with 13 rounds and approximately 2.1 grams of marijuana, police said.

Mr. Williams and the passenger, a 33-year-old Smyrna resident, were taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Williams was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, driving while suspended, failure to have insurance identification in possession, failure to signal and possession of marijuana. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7, Dover, and issued a $10,150 secured bond.

The passenger was found to have an active warrant out of New Castle County, police said. He was arraigned in JP Court 11, New Castle, and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
