DOVER — William Cooper, 33, has been arrested by the Washington County (Maryland) Sheriff’s Office in connection with a shooting in the 1200 block of Harrison Drive in Dover on Sunday.

The incident left a 13-year-old boy wounded, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

Authorities said Mr. Cooper was identified as the suspect during the investigation, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest Sunday.

Mr. Cooper was located in Maryland, where he will be held without bond while he awaits extradition to Delaware.

Police said the suspect rang the doorbell to the house on Harrison Drive, then walked away when the boy’s father answered the door. The suspect then turned and fired multiple rounds, one of which entered the home through an exterior wall and struck the teen in the back, Sgt. Hoffman added.

The round lost enough momentum as it penetrated the wall to only cause a minor laceration on the victim’s back. The child was treated for his injury and released at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover.

Mr. Cooper will be charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering and criminal mischief.
