Speak Up: Public shares comments on police body cameras

The first of two scheduled public comment sessions regarding police officers donning body-worn cameras in Delaware took place at the Dover Police Department on Thursday night, with an audience of five civilians at the start. The session was hosted by the Council on Police Training. The sessions are required by House Bill 195, which will bring state regulations for the mandated use of body-worn cameras by police.

  • It’s not about hiding. More or less, it’s about the funding. You have to get the money in order to get the transparency. I feel all cops want the body cameras in the current environment we live in these days, where a narrative can be spun to make someone look bad only to be refuted by the use of said body cameras. Most Delaware COVID hospitalizations were not fully vaccinated

The Delaware Division of Public Health reported that 85% of COVID-19 hospitalizations for Aug. 23-29 occurred in individuals who were not fully vaccinated against the virus. Of the 117 new hospitalizations that week, the most recent available data, 100 were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, DPH said. Eight of the nine COVID-19-related deaths that occurred during the same time were unvaccinated individuals.

Those people protesting that their liberties are being violated should remember the statement in the Declaration of Independence, which is, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” What makes me maddest is that they are endangering my 2-year-old granddaughter with their thoughtless actions.
