SMRYNA — A Smyrna woman died in a single-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon south of Smyrna.

Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the incident occurred around 2:38 p.m. as a 2019 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Ryan Road, south of Sunnyside Road. For undetermined reasons, the vehicle drove off the east side of the roadway and struck a large pine tree and came to a stop.

Cpl. Fournier said the 62-year-old female driver, and sole occupant, identified Sunday as Cecilia M. Powell, was properly restrained and pronounced dead at the scene.

Ryan Road was closed between Sunnyside Road and Brenford Road for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact MCpl. J. Lane by calling 302-697-4454. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or Delaware.crimestoppersweb.com.
