DOVER — A 59-year-old male died in a single motor vehicle collision Saturday morning on White Oak Road.

Delaware State Police said a 2002 Toyota Highlander was traveling eastbound on White Oak Road towards Bayside Drive (Del. 9) at approximately 8:18 a.m. The Toyota drifted from the eastbound lane, across the westbound lane and off the northern edge of the roadway.

The Toyota then traveled down into a ditch before striking a large tree, according to authorities. After impact, the Toyota rolled over onto its roof for a final resting place, partially within the westbound lane.

The driver was the sole occupant of the Toyota, police said. He was transported to BayHealth Kent Campus Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

White Oak Road between Bayside Drive and Long Point Road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated and the roadway cleared.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this collision should contact Master Cpl. Booth with the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit by calling 302-698-8451.
