Milford man charged with attempted burglary

MILFORD — An 18-year-old Milford man was arrested early Sunday and charged with attempted burglary and other offenses, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

Troopers were initially called to a residence in the 7000 block of Union Church Road, Milford, at approximately 1:20 a.m. for reports of a person attempting to break into a residence.

The investigation determined that a man, later identified as Jonathan Bishop Richard Harvey, had been standing on the front porch and tried to kick in the front door, Cpl. Pepper said. When the man was unsuccessful in gaining entry, he left the property and went to the residence next door, where he entered the back of a work van parked in the driveway, police said.

When troopers arrived, they located Mr. Harvey inside the van. Cpl. Pepper said the suspect failed to comply with multiple commands to exit the vehicle and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.

Mr. Harvey was charged with first-degree attempted burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, criminal mischief, theft under $1,500 and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
