DOVER — Smyrna police have arrested a Dover man for allegedly raping a vulnerable adult.

Authorities said officers from the Smyrna Police Department were alerted Sunday a woman was at Kent General Hospital for treatment of a sexual assault. After meeting with the victim and hospital staff, police determined the victim was a resident of a group home for vulnerable adults.

Police said a case worker assigned to the home, identified as Carlette Wheeler, 46, raped and assaulted the victim while he was alone with her. Detectives obtained warrants for Mr. Wheeler, who turned himself in on Thursday.

He was arraigned via video court in JP#2 on charges of first-degree rape, second-degree rape, sexual harassment, indecent exposure and four counts of third-degree unlawful sexual contact,

He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $164,200 secured bond.
