Maintenance of overpasses to require Del. 1 lane closures

Posted

KENT COUNTY — The maintenance of overpass structures between Smyrna and Milford will require nighttime lane closures on both northbound and southbound lanes of Del. 1 between the Milford Bypass and Smyrna’s East Commerce Street starting on Wednesday, March 10, according to the Delaware Department of Transportation.

The project will consist of cleaning and painting steel beams, diaphragms and bearings over 12 overpass structures on Del. 1 in Kent County.

Northbound lane closures will occur from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. and southbound lane closures will take place from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m., seven days a week.

There will be no work on Friday, April 2, through Sunday, April 4.

The first five structures will have nighttime lane closures on Del. 1 northbound/southbound, including the Milford Overpass; East Commerce Street Overpass; Smyrna-Leipsic Overpass; Fast Landing Road Overpass and the White Oak Road Overpass.

Motorists should slow down and anticipate lane shifts on Del. 1 northbound/southbound. Shoulder closures will occur under the overpass structure.

After the work has been completed on these overpasses, DelDOT will provide advance notice of overpass locations with lane closures on Del. 1 in Kent County.
