Local Roundup: Watson earns 4th straight win at Delaware International Speedway

Posted

The hot streak continued for Jordan Watson in the Delaware Dirt Modified division as he picked up his fourth consecutive victory of the season at Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night.

It was one of the rare nights that action hasn’t been rained out at the facility this summer.

It was also a big night for Matt Hill, who has now locked himself into the fall championship race for the RUSH Crate Late Model series after picking up the win in the 20-lap feature race.

Howard O’Neal led the modifieds to the green flag to start the feature event. However, points leader Watson sailed past the ‘09’ as they entered the first turn.

Watson had to survive a handful of cautions that erased his lead. But with five laps to go, Watson was still well in control. Watson managed to navigate lapped traffic and go on to pick up his fourth win of the year.

For only the second time this year the Super Late Models went green at DIS.

Shortly after the race started, the red flag was out after David Smith flipped over in turn four. Thankfully, he walked away with nothing worse than a torn up race car.

After the brief red flag, Donald Lingo had a great restart and put pressure on Mark Pettyjohn for the top spot. Lingo passed Pettyjohn in turn two and never looked back.

At the halfway point, the cars were spread out evenly, and the race remained caution free. Lingo Jr. cruised to his first win of the season.

A strong number of cars we’re on hand for the AC Delco PSC Modified feature race. After a string of cautions, fans witnessed a spectacular last-lap pass by Adam White to take the win.

With two laps to go, White had a great restart and had his bumper all over lead Trent Willey. With the white flag being displayed, everyone was watching White alongside Willey as they dueled it out for the remaining two turns.

White passed Willey and put his number 15 car into victory lane once again this season.

Rush Crate Late Model drivers had more reason to win than just a pay day. Whoever won the feature would be locked into the Delaware State Dirt Track Championships in October.

Hill got by leader Joe Warren early in the race, and began to check out.

It looked like Hill was going to clinch a spot in the fall championship without any pressure, but a late-race caution came out as the leaders were about take the white flag. On the restart Warren looked underneath Hill, but Hill showed no fear as he took home the victory.

With five laps to go in the Mod Lite feature, Brandon Dennis was side by side with Tim White for the lead. But White had mechanical issues which allowed the V75 of Dennis to pick up his first win this season.

Joey Waters won in back to back appearances at the speedway for the Delmarva Chargers. Melvin Joseph Jr picked up his first win this season at Delaware International Speedway in the Little Lincolns.
