M.O.T. downed Milford, 4-0, to reach the District I finals in Major League baseball on Wednesday evening.

The Middletown-area squad will face host Camden-Wyoming (2-0) for the district title today at 7 p.m.

M.O.T. (4-1), which won three straight games in the losers’ bracket, needs a victory to force a second game for the championship on Friday night. Camden-Wyoming beat M.O.T., 6-3, in the first meeting.

M.O.T. has won the last nine District I titles. No district tournament was held last summer because of the pandemic, although M.O.T. did win the special state tourney that was held.

In Sussex County’s District III, Milton beat Lewes-Rehoboth, 11-2, on Wednesday night to force a second game for the Major championship. The two squads are slated to play again today at 7 p.m. in Georgetown to decide the championship.

Lewes-Rehoboth is 3-1 while Milton is 5-1 after winning its fifth game in a row.

Camden-Wyoming 19, Milford 3: Camden-Wyoming reached the District I finals with the win on Tuesday night.

C-W (2-0), which is trying to win the district crown for the first time since 2001, is slated to host the finals today at 7 p.m. Camden-Wyoming is also hosting the state tournament.

In Tuesday’s victory, Quin Collins (double), Jacob Madden (triple), Makai Parker (double) and Kingston Noel (double) all had three hits for C-W. Jay Sanchez added a double while Zane Collins was the winning pitcher.

Deacon Herring, Tristen Willey and Alex Tranchina each had a hit for Milford (2-1).

8-10 District I Tournament

M.O.T. 6. Camden-Wyoming 3: M.O.T. scored three runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning to win the District I title on Tuesday night.

After going 4-0 in the tourney, M.O.T. moves on to the state tournament, which starts on Monday at Naamans.

College basketball

UD’s Arletti shines for Italy: Delaware guard Gianmarco Arletti hit the go-ahead three-pointer and finished with a team-high 16 points in Italy’s 66-63 win over the Czech Republic at the FIBA U20 European Challengers.

The Italian squad is playing five games this week at the tournament being held in Brno, Czech Republic.

DSU ‘Hall’ banquet tickets on sale: Tickets are on sale for the Delaware State University Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony.

This year’s ceremony is set for Sept. 3 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Center on the DSU campus.

The DSU Hall of Fame class features nine former Hornet athletes and two coaches. The Hall of Fame was established in 1985. Since then, nearly 300 former athletes, coaches and administrators have been inducted.

In addition to the ceremony, the new inductees will be recognized at halftime of the Hornets’ football opener against Bowie at Alumni Stadium on Sept. 4.
