Letter to the Editor: Democrats should have called witnesses

It was foolish for House impeachment managers to not call witnesses in the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., told the managers that senators wanted to get home for Valentine’s Day. Democrats say that calling witnesses wouldn’t have changed the votes of senators on whether to convict Trump. But calling witnesses would have changed the votes of some people, regarding whether Trump runs for the presidency again or another political office.

Too many Democrats don’t understand that they should be bringing as much attention as possible to Republican abuses of power. They should have learned the importance of a good show from Trump. If a Democratic president was impeached, Republicans would call all the witnesses they could to harm Democrats.
