Large sign for Milford complex gets first OK

MILFORD — At Milford’s Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, the body gave its approval to a large 11-by-27-foot nonconforming sign that developers hope to put in front of an apartment complex under construction.

Nick Hammonds — a principle with the Windward on the River development, which is building the complex — said the sign needs to be tall enough to be seen over the high privacy fence on Beaver Dam Road the company was required to install due to the city code.

Although one person who lives in the neighborhood did express her opposition to the sign — stating her belief that it will alter the area’s rural character — the commission gave its unanimous blessing to the developers.

Now, the sign will be reviewed by City Council at its next meeting Tuesday.
