DOVER — Bayhealth Foundation Donors Milagros Rosa Olivari and William Vasquez Gil are five-year residents of the Dover community. Their daughter, Tash Heyliger, is Bayhealth’s program manager for population health and in her 23rd year with the organization. When Ms. Heyliger heard about some Bayhealth patients with heart failure not having a scale at home or being able to afford one, she knew it was just the project that her parents were looking to get involved in. 

For someone with heart failure, excess fluids in the bloodstream make it harder for the heart to pump. Therefore, fluid control and weighing oneself daily are vital steps in managing this condition. In her role at Bayhealth, Ms. Heyliger is driven to improve access and quality of healthcare locally for all patient populations. She and her parents have been personally motivated to support patients with heart failure, as that runs in their family.

“We wanted to do something for the community to help where there was need and give back to the healthcare system where we receive care,” the couple said in a prepared statement.

Thanks to their gift to the Bayhealth Foundation, a new supply of scales is now available for heart failure patients who need them. This includes bariatric scales designed for individuals with obesity. 

“It’s important that all patients have access to the tools they need to stay on top of their chronic conditions in order to avoid hospitalizations and maintain their well-being,” said Cardiac Clinical Nurse Specialist Ludmila Santiago-Rotchford, CNS. “We’re so glad to have donors that generously support us in our mission to strengthen the health of our community.”
