MILFORD — Timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the Riverwalk Freedom Festival, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford will be introducing the inaugural Riverwalk Freedom Awards.

Sponsored by the Delaware State News, these awards will honor residents of greater Milford who go out of their way to serve the community unselfishly.

“We intend this program to shine a light on the good work done by local citizens and the businessmen and -women who help to make the greater Milford community such a wonderful place to live and work,” said Darel La Prade, publisher of the State News and former president of the chamber.

Nominations are open until Sept. 4, and nominees will be placed in one of the following categories by the Selection Committee: Business Volunteer, Emergency Responder, Faith/Spiritual Leader, Educator, Mentor/Coach, Community Volunteer, Veteran Volunteer, Lifetime Achievement and Youth Volunteer.

A nominee should be of good character, be a positive role model, have a history of volunteerism and sacrifice personal gain to achieve broader community goals.

The 2021 Freedom Award recipients will be honored at the 20th annual Riverwalk Freedom Festival on Sept. 18. Presentations will take place at 7 p.m. at the main stage in Bicentennial Park.  Share a nomination now.
