DOVER — Four arrests were made following a Saturday shooting at the Kent Budget Motel, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

No injuries resulted from the gunfire, reported to police at approximately 9:44 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene at 383 N. DuPont Highway, they were told by witnesses that a group of people had confronted a 26-year-old male at the motel and multiple shots had been fired, Sgt. Hoffman said. The group then left the area in a 2021 black Jeep Wrangler with Florida registration, he said.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle and stopped it, after it fled for a short period, police said.

Officers located a rifle in plain view in the back seat of the Wrangler, Sgt. Hoffman said, and took four occupants into custody without incident.

It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen from a trailer parked in a vacant lot in the 1000 block of South DuPont Highway, police said. The trailer’s operator confirmed that the keys had been left in the Wrangler and that it had been driven off sometime after 3 a.m. Saturday.

Dover residents Alshawn Wheeler, 23, and Devon Young, 22, were both charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, receiving stolen property and second-degree conspiracy. Mr. Wheeler was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $42,000 cash bond, while Mr. Young was committed on a $62,000 cash bond.

Doimeire Gray, 19, of Dover, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property and second-degree conspiracy. He was committed to SCI on a $34,000 secured bond.

A 16-year-old Camden resident was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property and second-degree conspiracy. He was turned over to a guardian.
