DOVER — A 23-year-old Dover man was arrested on gun charges following a foot pursuit Saturday, authorities said.
At approximately 1:10 a.m., officers were in the area of South Bradford Street when they heard a single gunshot, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. Officers checking the area observed a suspect — later identified as Akeem Ferrell — running in the area of Minor Street Alley with a black handgun in his hand, police said.
Mr. Ferrell refused to stop when ordered by police, who pursued him onto Loockerman Street where he was arrested, Sgt. Hoffman said. During a search, the handgun was located. Mr. Ferrell was also found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of possession and had an active no-contact order from Kent County Superior Court that prohibited him from possessing a firearm, police said.
He was charged with possession of a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while under the influence, breach of release and resisting arrest. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $9,000 cash bond.
