HARRINGTON — Food Lion, the Delaware State Fair and the Food Bank of Delaware recently announced the 10th annual Food Lion Feeds Hunger Relief Day, taking place Monday at the fair.
Attendees who bring five Food Lion brand canned or boxed goods will receive free gate admittance from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday.
Donations received will assist families in Kent and Sussex counties struggling with food security, a news release said.
More than 47,000 residents Downstate are considered food insecure, meaning their access to adequate food is limited by a lack of money and other resources at times.
Volunteers from Food Lion and the Food Bank will accept donations at all gates. No items stored in glass will be accepted.
Some of the Food Bank’s most needed items are canned fruits, vegetables and soups, as well as tuna fish, peanut butter, cereal and pasta.
