Food Bank of Delaware Farm to offer summer community supported agriculture sale

MILFORD — The Food Bank of Delaware is offering a 22-week Community Supported Agriculture program. Each week, participants may pick up their box of pre-packed produce at the Food Bank’s Milford branch.

The first day of the distribution will be June 10 or 11.

Half shares are available for $400 (includes four or five items per week) and full shares are $750 (includes eight to 10 items per week). The weekly cost breaks down to approximately $18 and $34, respectively.

Proceeds from this revenue-generating CSA benefit the Food Bank’s 5-acre farm located at its Newark headquarters.

“Thanks to the support of volunteers, our late spring and summer crops are off to a great start,”  Food Bank of Delaware Farm Manager Kyle Brolis said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to offering our community with fresh, locally-grown produce. In addition to the produce we sell through the CSA to help support the farm, we are also committed to providing free, fresh produce to our neighbors in need.”

This season the Food Bank will be growing tomatoes, peppers, herbs, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, eggplant and more. To round out the CSA boxes, the Food Bank will source items like strawberries, watermelon, corn, cantaloupe, blueberries and more from local farmers like Fifer Orchards and others.

In addition to the paid shares, the Food Bank has also identified families who are in need to receive free CSA shares each week.

To sign up for the CSA, go online. The deadline to register is June 3.
