Dover’s 1st District special election is Tuesday

Posted

DOVER — The polls will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday for the city's special election to fill a vacant seat in the 1st District.

Polls — at Elks Lodge 1903, 200 Saulsbury Road — will close at 8 p.m.

When they head to the polls, 1st District residents will be choosing between Dr. Julia Pillsbury or Brandy Walker.

Dr. Pillsbury or Ms. Walker will fill the council seat left vacant by Matthew Lindell, who resigned in September after announcing that his family was moving out of Dover. Because Mr. Lindell had more than six months left on his term, city code dictates that a special election be held to fill the vacancy.

To vote in this election, you must be at least 18 years old, be a registered voter and live in the 1st District. For a map of the district, which roughly covers the western portion of Dover, visit here.

Whoever wins the election will fill out the rest of Mr. Lindell’s term, which ends May 8, 2023. Gerald Rocha also represents the 1st District.

The oath of office for the winner will be administered during council’s Dec. 13 meeting.
