Dover traffic stop brings firearms, drug charges

DOVER — A 19-year-old Townsend man was arrested on firearms and drug charges during a Sunday morning traffic stop, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.

Travis Ostan was driving in the area of U.S. 13 and White Oak Road at approximately 2:10 a.m. when stopped for a motor vehicle violation, police said. During the stop, officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana and observed paraphernalia in plain view, police said.

During a search of the vehicle, a 9mm handgun was located under the driver seat. In addition to the firearm, officers also located a total of seven Oxycodone pills and a digital scale.

Mr. Ostan was charged with possession offenses including deadly weapon during commission of a felony, deadly weapon by person prohibited, Oxycodone and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and motor vehicle violations. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $27,653 cash bail.
