DOVER — A 15-year-old male was arrested on gun charges during a traffic stop by Dover police Tuesday, said department spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman.

At about 12:36 a.m., a patrol officer stopped a vehicle for running a stop sign at South Little Creek Road and Levy Court Lane, police said.

Sgt. Hoffman said that during the stop, the driver gave officers consent to search the vehicle. When an officer patted down the occupants, a 9 mm handgun was found in the waistband of a 15-year-old passenger.

The juvenile was released to a grandparent after being charged with possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (second offense) and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
