Dover man arrested on firearms charges

DOVER — A 19-year-old Dover man was arrested on firearms charges Tuesday after police initially contacted him regarding a domestic-related incident, authorities said.

Upon officers’ arrival to a residence in the 800 block of College Road, Khalid Washington was found to be wanted on two charges unrelated to the domestic incident, said Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman.

During a search, Mr. Washington was found to have a loaded handgun in the front waistband of his pants, police said. A serial number check of the weapon showed that it was reported stolen Sept. 7, Sgt. Hoffman added.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident shortly after 6 p.m. He was charged with theft of a firearm, first-degree trespassing, carrying a concealed deadly weapon and receiving a stolen firearm.

He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $1,000 secured bond for the previous warrant. He received an own-recognizance bond for the new charges.
