Delaware DOC extends Citizens Academy application deadline to Sunday

Posted

GEORGETOWN — The application deadline for the Delaware Department of Correction’s Citizens Academy has been extended until Sunday.

The academy sessions will be held in Georgetown, beginning Oct. 6. DOC said this free program gives community members a look inside the operations of Delaware’s correctional system and provides an opportunity to engage with DOC leadership, uniformed officers, treatment and program providers, and a wide range of professional staff.

Sessions meet once per week at the Sussex Community Corrections Center, the Sussex Correctional Institution and the regional Probation and Parole Office, all in Georgetown. The sessions will be held each Wednesday from Oct. 6 through Nov. 10, 6-8 p.m.

DOC is seeking a diverse group of participants; previous correction or law enforcement experience is not required. COVID-19-related precautions, including mask-wearing, will be observed.

Those interested must complete a short application and a background check form, posted here.

Completed forms should be emailed to jason.miller@delaware.gov.
