10:15 a.m.— A 38-year-old woman is fatally shot by her 47-year-old husband in the Smyrna Middle School parking lot. The man initially flees in his wife’s vehicle and then enters his own car that is parked nearby.

10:26 a.m.— Delaware State Police are called to the scene to assist Smyrna police.

11:02 a.m. — DSP troopers locate the suspect’s vehicle in the area of U.S. 13 and Del. 42, and a pursuit ensues. The chase ends in the Galena, Maryland area after the man shoots himself and his vehicle crashes, according to police. The man is transported to a Maryland area hospital where he is pronounced deceased.

2 p.m. — Authorities release more details during a news conference at the Smyrna Police Department.

7:25 p.m. — DSP announce that a criminal investigation is ongoing in the area of Monrovia Avenue. A 21-year-old woman with apparent gunshot wounds is found dead in her residence in the 800 building of the McLane Gardens apartment complex. Police had arrived for a welfare check and described the woman as an acquaintance of the 38-year-old woman who died earlier.
