City of Dover Job Fair aims to offer opportunities

City of Dover Job Fair aims to offer opportunities
By Mike FinneyDOVER — Individuals who might have found themselves unemployed or underemployed during the COVID-19 pandemic are welcome to attend the city of Dover’s Job Fair on Thursday at the John W. Pitts Recreation Center.
Kim Hawkins, director of human resources for the city, said the fair will last from 2-6 p.m. at the facility, 10 Electric Ave., near Schutte Park.
There will be jobs available from a variety of local industries, and it will offer a chance to get in front of recruiters with resumes in hand, Ms. Hawkins said.
She added that social distancing guidelines will be enforced for all attendees and that masks will be required.
“We are very excited about the upcoming job fair,” Ms. Hawkins said. “We have gotten a tremendous response from local employers. We have 15 employers, not including the city of Dover and our police department, attending.”
Among the potential employers are Dover Downs, Kent County Levy Court, WSFS, Edgewell, Delaware Technical Community College, Dover Motorsports, St. Francis Healthcare, Delaware Army National Guard, Mountain Consulting, Community Integrated Services, Bug Guy, Grotto Pizza, Bayhealth and the Dover Air Force Base, offering civilian positions.
“I believe this event will be well-received by all, vendors and attendees,” Ms. Hawkins said. “It will assist employers in securing greatly needed staff. With such a large, diverse group of employers, the attendance should be large. Attendees will be able to speak to employers that could provide them with a job.
“This new job will help those who may have lost their prior job because of COVID. Businesses are attempting to get back to full operations, as COVID restrictions are loosening.”
Ms. Hawkins noted that her employer, the city of Dover, will be looking for prospective employees, as well.
“Dover is always seeking applicants for the position of police officer,” she said. “We currently have positions available in our Finance Department, Public Works Department and library. We are very eager to recruit staff for our summer camps.
“The event is not only designed to recruit but to educate the local community about employers — what opportunities exist in the local community. This will assist with future recruitment opportunities.”
