Athlete of the Week: Jada McCullough, Caesar Rodney basketball

Posted

Caesar Rodney High basketball player Jada McCullough was voted this week’s Athlete of the Week. The senior guard recorded two double-doubles in the same week and was one of three Delaware girls players nominated for the McDonalds All-American team, representing the East region.

Against Smyrna, McCullough had 13 points and 10 assists. She then finished her senior night with 26 points, 10 assists and six steals against Sussex Tech.

McCullough, who will continue her basketball career at Delaware State, and her teammates play at top-seeded St. Elizabeth on Friday night in the DIAA state tournament’s third round.

“She’s definitely battled all season,” said CR coach Tameka Williams. “I couldn’t ask for her to be in a better place than she is right now. She’s playing defense better than I could ask for over the last few weeks and, offensively, it’s coming back to her. I’m super excited that she’s going to finish her senior year this way. Just her growth in one year has been phenomenal.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.

All nominations must be high school varsity athletes and come from high schools within Kent or Sussex counties. The winner appears in print each Friday.
