AMC Museum set to reopen indoor exhibits

DOVER — The Air Mobility Command Museum, whose indoor exhibits have been closed to the public for more than a year, is set to get its operations up and flying again.

The AMC Museum announced Thursday that it will be reopening its indoor displays to the public Wednesday. Operating hours will be Wednesdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are excited to once again open the museum doors and allow people to experience the incredible history of Air Mobility Command through our numerous exhibits,” said John Taylor, the museum’s director. “We’ve taken all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our visitors, employees and volunteers and cannot wait to welcome everyone back.”

The museum, which won TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice and Stars of Delaware awards in 2020, will reopen its main exhibit gallery and allow the public to safely view eight historic aircraft, including the C-47 Skytrain, B-17 Flying Fortress and CG-4A Hadrian, in addition to a vast selection of retired aircraft located outdoors.

Indoor tours and C-5A Galaxy cargo compartment tours are available with guides only.

The outside aircraft ramp, gift store and portable restrooms will also be available to visitors.

Patrons will be expected to follow COVID-19 guidelines while in the gallery and outdoors. Masks will be required at all times when inside and when social distancing cannot be maintained outdoors.

Admission to the AMC Museum is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not required.
