Sussex Academy welcomes Rep. Shupe for tour, discussion

GEORGETOWN — Rep. Bryan Shupe, R-Milford, visited Sussex Academy on Feb. 25 to tour the secondary campus and meet with students interested in leadership and law.

Student leaders took Rep. Shupe for a tour, where he was able to meet with secondary teachers and other students, observe classroom activities and learn a little bit about Sussex Academy student-run clubs and organizations.

Afterward, Rep. Shupe sat down with students to discuss the process of lawmaking, how they can become strong leaders and support their community, and how to engage with local lawmakers whose decisions can affect them.

Students Jenica Jean-Louis, Melvin Harmon, Josue Laurore, Priya Haldar, Grace Berberian, Eaknoor Kaur, Gabrielle Yablonski, Natalia Gatti, Kate Meszaros and Peyton Stanislav provided tours and information to Rep. Shupe throughout the event.

Rep. Shupe also spent time advising and working with Natalia, a freshman who is crafting her own bill to fund SROs in schools as part of her involvement in the Sussex YMCA Youth in Government Program.
