DOVER — Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity announced Nov. 22 it received a $33,500 grant from Lowe’s to help repair three homes in Kent County.

The funding will support Central Delaware Habitat’s efforts to make homes safer and healthier and create stronger communities. With the support of the grant, Central Delaware Habitat will be able to repair three homes in need of dwelling safety repairs including the Brown Family home. Other projects include repairing electrical systems in two other mobile homes in Magnolia.

 Mrs. Brown was in an accident in 2021, and her husband is her full-time caregiver. The Brown family are living in their mobile home with no running water and HVAC issues.

When they moved in, they were not informed it was their responsibility to connect the water and sewer and were taken advantage of by someone who failed to complete the job.

After running out of funds, they contacted numerous organizations with no result. Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity will be repairing their plumbing and HVAC projects with the help from Lowe’s grant funding.

“While these stories may seem unique, we are contacted by family’s like Mr. and Mrs. Brown, far too often. We are grateful for Lowe’s support and the opportunity they have provided to Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity to serve the Brown family and grant them access to essential resources like heat and running water,” said Tim Bailey, CDHFH CEO.

The funding from Lowe’s is part of a two-year, $6 million donation to Habitat for Humanity International to support home repair and preservation efforts in owner-occupied homes. This year, funding will enable 110 local Habitat affiliates to complete 295 projects and impact nearly 700 families across the U.S. Since 2003, Lowe’s and Habitat have worked together to help more than 18,000 people build or improve a place to call home.
