Speak Up: Meyer urged to back vets affairs secretary
Posted
Dave Skocik and Paul Davis shared an Opinion expressing their support for a cabinet-level position focusing on veterans affairs and urged Gov. Matt Meyer to back it, as well.
As a veteran and a U.S. Naval Academy grad, there needs to be an entity, not necessarily a separate cabinet office, that has some state funding and resources, with direct access to the governor on a regular basis. This could be a board chaired by a veteran who has both military and state government experience. This could easily get Delaware vets the access and resources they need without a separate cabinet position. We need less, not more, government. This is not the time to add costs and more layers to government. There is not enough volume centered around veterans in Delaware to warrant the cost and administrative requirements of a cabinet-level position and staff. A Governor’s Veterans Commission with a chair who reports directly to the governor would be more than sufficient.— Ken Anderson
