Lake Forest School District officials budgeted 7.5 days into this year’s school calendar to offset possible inclement weather, but a series of snowstorms in early February already has lopped off two-thirds of those days.
“The storms really bit into our plans this year,” Superintendent Steven Lucas told Daily State News. “In Delaware, we are required to schedule a minimum of 1,060 instructional hours. Like most districts, we schedule extra hours (days) to account for emergencies like weather.”
The school district now has a 2.5-day cushion remaining in its schedule, he said.
