Track and field: C-SD brings home hardware from Bayside Championships

SNOW HILL - It was a long, but successful day on Jan. 18, when the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School indoor track and field team competed in the Bayside Championships at Snow Hill.

The C-SD girls’ team finished tied for 5th, out of 11 teams, with 38 points. Kent Island won, with 148. The boys finished 3rd of 13 teams, with 60 points. Parkside won, with 97.5 points.

In the Baysides, all Eastern Shore public schools compete, regardless of size. The top three places in each event earn medals, with places 4-8 getting ribbons.

In track and field meets with nine or more teams, event places are scored down to eighth, with points awarded being 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. In the winter season, there are 10 track and three field events.

In high jump, William Jackson was 2nd, with a height of 5’6”; in the 55-meter dash, Teshar Drummond was 2nd, with a time of 6.79; Tekai Drummond was 3rd in the 500 meters, in 1:11.40; in the 4x200-meter relay, Tori Willis, Tekai Drummond, Teshar Drummond and Kay’Ion Marine finished 2nd, in 1:39.69; in the 4x400, Tekai Drummond, Tori Willis, Nkole Ballin and Teshar Drummond finished 1st, in 3:42.09.

Viking men who earned ribbons were: in the 55-meter hurdles, Jayden Smith was 4th in 8.99, Antonio Blueford 5th in 9.05, and Tori Willis 6th in 9.52; in pole vault, William Jackson was 4th, 10’’; in the 4x800, Nkole Ballin, Kay’Ion Marine, Christian Sanders and Quintin Blueford finished 8th, in 10:03.10; in high jump, Jayden Smith was in a three-way tie for 6th, with a height of 5’2”.

In the 55-meter dash, Enazajah Young was 1st, with a time of 7.54; Young also won the 55-meter hurdles, in 9.06.

Viking girls who earned ribbons were: In the 300 meters, Enazajah Young, 45.49; in the 1,600 meters, Camryn Russum was 7th in 5:55.56; in the 4x200, Camryn Russum, Enazajah Young, Al’Jane Jackson and Maniya Camper, 5th, in 2:00.78; in the 800 meters, Camryn Russum, 8th, 2:45.83; in pole vault, Al’Jane Jackson, 4th, 7’, and Maniya Camper was 8th, 6’.

The Vikings will have their final regular-season meet on Jan. 25, at the Worcester County Recreation Center. Next up will be Regional Championships on Feb. 8, at which athletes will qualify for the State Championships on Feb. 21.
