Spectrum: New class highlights for January at DCA

“Water and Color” with José Ramirez / “Agua y Color” con José Ramirez:

Learn about the medium of watercolor and how to handle its beauty. You will be introduced to this magical medium and how to approach different subject matter, allowing you to express your feelings through the process of painting.

Aprendiendo sobre el medio de la acuarela y como manejar su belleza. Se le presentara este medio mágico y como abordar diferentes temas que le permitirán expresar sus sentimientos a través del proceso de pintar.

The class will meet Saturdays, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Session 1: Jan. 7-28; Session 2: Feb. 4-25; Session 3: March 4-25.  

José Ramirez is a watercolorist and oil painter originally from Guatemala. He moved to the United States in 2012 and currently resides in Dorchester County. His style intention is not to create a photorealistic image of a scene, but to capture the feeling evoked by his subjects. He is a member of the Plein Air Painters of the Chesapeake Bay based in Easton.

“Youth Introduction to Comic Book Illustration” with Lee Reece:

Learn proper page layout and the “how to” of character creation. A materials list will be sent to students after registration. Open to ages 13 and up. The two-day workshop meets Friday, 4:30-5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 4-5 p.m. Session 1: Jan. 6-7; Session 2: Feb. 3-4; Session 3: March 3-4.

Lee Reece is an independent comic book creator with a 25-year background in graphic design. Lee prefers to create traditional illustrations and has added digital illustrations to his portfolio. His main goal is to keep learning, as well as teach, as much as he can to fuel his passion for the comic book industry.

“Improv Jam” with De’Vonte Perry:

Are you an improviser? Want to try improv? Want to have fun? On Thursday, Jan. 12, play improv theater games that work on skills such as mindfulness, creative thinking and so much more. This free session meets Thursday, Jan. 12, 6-7:30 p.m.  

De’Vonte Perry is an actor who currently works with The Improvaneer Method and various organizations across the country, teaching improv to those with developmental disabilities.

Additional classes are offered in pottery, drawing, fiber art, stained glass, painting and furniture upcycling.
